Tag/Category Settings

Most of the General Settings can be overridden for a category / tag. To do so, please go to the WP Dashboard > Posts > Categories / Tags / A category / A tag > Edit page > Main Collection section.

Auto-Injection

Auto-injection gives you the option to blend your regular posts with ads, newsletters, or products. These “special” items are to encourage your users to action, in an unobtrusive way.

For each item type you have to choose where to place the first item (Inject at position field) and after how many items repeat injection (Repeat after each X positions field, leave empty to not repeat). Please don’t set up repetitions to eg. 1. This can break counters and end up with unexpected behaviors. Best if you inject each type just once on a page. You don’t want to distract your users with so many “no post” items.

Example

  • Newsletter – inject at position 2, repeat 11 (if you have 12 items per page, 11 value will keep injection in the same position on all next pages)
  • Ad – inject at position 5, repeat 11
  • Product – inject at position 8, repeat 11

Auto-Injected Newsletter

To use this option, you need a plugin that handles the newsletter subscription process for you. We recommend the MailChimp for WordPress plugin. After theme activation, you should be asked to install it or you can do that later, manually via the WordPress Admin › Appearance › Install Plugins page.

Read more about the plugin integration.

Auto-Injected Ad

To use this option you need a plugin for ads. We recommend the AdAce plugin.
After theme activation, you should be asked to install it or you can do that later, manually via the WP Dashboard › Appearance › Install Plugins page.

Auto-Injected Product

To use this option you need a plugin for products. We recommend the WooCommerce plugin. After activating the plugin, set up your products and fill the Inject products from category field to inject only products from selected categories into your home page posts collection. Choose the “none” option to get recent products.

Auto Play Videos https://bimber.bringthepixel.com/docs/auto-play-videos/ https://bimber.bringthepixel.com/docs/auto-play-videos/#respond Thu, 20 Feb 2020 08:38:09 +0000 https://bimber.bringthepixel.com/docs/2020/02/20/auto-play-videos/ Normally videos can be played only on their single pages. Bimber offers autoplay option on Stream collections (check Gagster demo as an example) so a user can watch videos directly on the post list.

How Does It Work?

While scrolling a list of posts, each video that enters visible viewport starts playing.
When the video will go out of the viewport, it stops. Scroll back to that video to resume playing. For more convenience, all videos start playing muted.

Enable Autoplay

To autoplay videos in stream collections, please:

  1. Go to the WP Dashboard > Appearance > Customize panel
  2. Open to the Posts > General section
  3. Check the Autoplay videos in Stream collections option

Supported Media

Autoplay supports:

  • Embedded videos (like YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion)
  • Self-hosted videos (like MP4)
  • GIF animations

Works With Lazy Load

Autoplay works with lazy loaded videos. Besides better user experience you gain also better performance. Save bandwidth by loading only videos that users can really see.

GIF Player

GIF animations work like other videos. They can be played/stopped automatically when entering/leaving viewport. But as GIFs have no video controls (like Play | Pause | Stop), you can stop/play it by clicking on them.

To disable the GIF Player, please do as follows:

  1. Go to the WP Dashboard > Appearance > Customize panel
  2. Open to the Posts > General section
  3. Uncheck the Use GIF player option

Call to Action Button https://bimber.bringthepixel.com/docs/call-to-action-button/ https://bimber.bringthepixel.com/docs/call-to-action-button/#respond Thu, 20 Feb 2020 08:38:09 +0000 https://bimber.bringthepixel.com/docs/2020/02/20/call-to-action-button/ The Call to Action button is an extended version of the Read More link. It still points to a single post page but you gain control over its visibility and label, for most encouraging post formats like Quizzes or Polls.

What Is It For?

Normally when a user wants to view a post, the only way to do that is to click a post title, featured image, or read more link (if available).
Posts like quizzes or polls that should encourage users to take action are lost among other, regular posts. This is when the Call to Action comes into play. The CTA is for hiding irrelevant buttons, making those more attractive exposed (screen below).

Supported Formats

The Call to Action buttons can be divided into following formats:

  • Read More – for all regular posts
  • View Gallery – for “Gallery” post formats (both Snax galleries and WordPress “Gallery” formats)
  • Play the quiz – for Snax quizzes
  • Take the poll – for Snax polls
  • Add to list – for Snax open lists

Where Applicable?

The Call to Action buttons can be used on the following post collections:

  • Home Featured Entries
  • Home Main Collection
  • Archive Featured Entries
  • Archive Main Collection
  • Single Post “You May Also Like” Collection
  • Single Post “More From” Collection
  • Single Post “Don’t Miss” Collection

and for the Bimber Posts builder element.

Configuration

Let’s set up the Home Featured Entries collection (screen above) as an example. We have 3 posts there, two regular posts, and one quiz. We want to show only the Play the quiz button. To do that, please do as follows:

  1. Go to the WP Dashboard > Appearance › Customize
  2. Choose the Home panel
  3. Next, choose the Featured Entries panel
  4. Scroll down to the the Hide Elements section (screen below)
  5. From the Hide Elements section, uncheck the Call to Action box. At this point, all types of CTA buttons will be visible
  6. From the Call to Action – Hide Buttons section, check the Read More box. That way, we will hide the CTA button for regular posts

Change Labels

Button labels can be changed using the translation mechanism. Before starting,
please make sure you’re looking for a label in the right context (theme or plugin). Below the labels with the context they belong to.

  • Read More – Bimber theme
  • View Gallery – Bimber theme
  • Play the quiz – Snax plugin
  • Take the poll – Snax plugin
  • Add to list – Snax plugin
