Besides the ad slots, you can use ads in widgets ready areas, and in any other custom locations via shortcode.
Ad Widget

Ad Shortcode
To display an ad via shortcode, please do as follows:
- Go to the WP Dashboard > Ads > All ads page
- Find an ad you want to use
- In the Shortcode column, you will find the code to copy (screen)
- Paste it wherever you need, in post content, your custom code or the Text widget
