1. The topic is not extensively written upon and you choose to show its importance by exploring its content.
2. Some work has been done upon the topic, but you believe there are gaps that you can fill and bring into prominence through new evidence.
3. The topic has been extensively written about, yet you choose to write about in light of new methods and information.

Know the scope of the study
